The Check's In The Mail

Have you ever heard one of those stories where someone had a need, and they went to the mailbox only to find a check that met that need? Well, I've heard several, and I always thought it would be a cool thing to experience. Not that we haven't seen God provide for us in amazing ways. I just always thought those stories were incredible. Well, today was our "check in the mail" story day!!

It all began Friday when Kenney's truck started having problems. Not it's time to put air in your tire or get your brakes checked problems, but something is seriously wrong problems. We were both a little on edge this weekend knowing that we couldn't afford any major repairs right now and the fact that Kenney needs his truck for work to haul equipment, ladders, etc. He took his truck in this morning to get it looked at and received the news that it wasn't the transmission or anything major like that, but that we were still looking at $400+ in repairs.

This afternoon, I began opening the mail as Kenney was leaving to pick up his truck. I got to the last envelope which looked like one of those notices that tells you that you're involved in a class action lawsuit. To my surprise, this was not your normal letter -it was a letter with a check attached to the bottom! Apparently, a suit was filed by the Federal Trade Commission against one of our prior mortgage servicers (from 10 years ago!). The check amount was $444.56. I immediately called Kenney, who was on his way home, and asked how much the truck repairs were. Are you ready....$446.18. I guess God knew we could handle $1.62!!!!

Oh wait...there's more. The Beast stayed home from school today and REALLY needed some "Dad time". In fact, she specifically requested it which is a little unusual for her as she normally does the majority of her talking with me. Obviously, Kenney could not work because his truck was in the shop all day. Needless to say, she got more "Dad time" than she could have asked for!
